TEACHER LIBRARIANSHIP AND COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
The role of a teacher Librarian as information services manager involves the management of the library’s collection of resources and provision of practical access to them. (Australian School Libraries, 2013)
I have managed the selection and purchasing of resources for the schools new Learning Information Centre, since it was opened in 2013.
The collection has been arranged to provide easier access and identification for all students Prek- Yr12 and teachers.
A Picture Book, Primary Fiction, Primary Non- Fiction, Primary Bible, Senior Bible, Senior Fiction, Senior Non- Fiction and Teacher Resource sections have been developed.
With a sound knowledge of the current collection and school context I continue to meet the resource needs of the school community through impromptu discussions, collaboration and the use of surveys in order to supply a collection that is suited its users as recommended by Bishop, (2007a).
I have formed an informal “Library Committee” with which I worked with to form the current Library Management Policy and Vision Statement on view in the Centre and made accessible to all members of the school community.
An annual budget showing how proposed expenditure is prepared and shared with school leaders each year. Regular progress reports and updates were, and continue to be, communicated to the principal, school leaders and staff in an effort to keep all informed of money spent, resources purchased and new services provided.
Secondary School Textbook loans and storage are also managed within the center.
I have interactions with other local school and public libraries - sharing ideas and professional support.
Online courses through SCIS have enabled me to use the SCIS services to a fuller extent and make use of subject headings and authority files.
Ongoing use and learning of the OLIVER V5 management system broadens my use and application in managing resources.
